Event Code of Conduct

Respect, inclusion, and openness are some of the Sovereign Tech Fund’s core principles. We gain strength from diversity and actively seek participation from those who enhance it.

We also think that following these principles has a deep impact on community health. 

This code of conduct outlines the core principles of our working together that also apply during our events. As a participant in the event, you agree to behave according to the following principles, promote compliance with them, and to refrain from any unacceptable behavior that may harm them.


Our Core Principles

Respect

  • Value each other’s ideas, styles, and viewpoints.
  • Be respectful in all interactions and communications.
  • Be aware of your impact and how intense interactions may be affecting people.
  • Be direct, but always professional, constructive and positive.
  • Take responsibility for your impact and your mistakes.
  • Be respectful of people with different cultural practices, attitudes, and beliefs.
  • Respect people’s right to privacy and confidentiality.

Inclusion

  • Seek diverse perspectives.
  • Encourage all voices and help new perspectives be heard and listen actively.
  • Be inclusive of everyone in an interaction, respecting and facilitating people’s participation whether they are e.g., not native language speakers, coming from a different culture, or face other challenges to participate.
  • Hold yourself and others accountable for inclusive behaviors.

Openness

  • Be open to different possibilities and to being wrong.
  • Be open to learning from and educating others as well as educating yourself.
  • Work to eliminate your own biases, prejudices and discriminatory practices.
  • Think of others’ needs from their point of view, e.g., use preferred titles (including pronouns) and the appropriate tone of voice.

Unacceptable Behavior

No Violence and Threats of Violence

  • Violence and threats of violence are not acceptable — online or offline.

No Personal Attacks or Derogatory Language

  • Attacking someone for their opinions, beliefs, and ideas is not acceptable.
  • Hurtful or harmful language directly or indirectly related to e.g., background, family status, gender, gender identity or expression, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, native language, or age is not acceptable.

No Unwelcome Sexual Attention or Physical Contact

  • Unwelcome sexual attention or unwelcome physical contact is not acceptable.
  • Physically blocking or intimidating another person without affirmative consent is not acceptable.

No Disruptive Behavior

  • Sustained disruption of events, forums, or meetings, including talks and presentations will not be tolerated. This includes ‘talking over’ or ‘heckling’ speakers, as well as any other disruptive behavior.

Reporting

If you believe you’re experiencing unacceptable behavior, please email awareness@bugresilience.de to report or directly contact the following person as STF’s representative for this event:

Reports will be promptly, discreetly, and carefully be analyzed by the STF representatives; based on the information provided, they will determine the next necessary steps.

Please also report to us if you observe a potentially dangerous situation, someone in distress, or violations of these core principles.


Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior

  • Unacceptable behavior is not be tolerated and will lead to immediate and appropriate measures.
  • In particular, the person concerned will be asked to stop unacceptable behavior immediately. Violation of this code of conduct may also result in temporary or permanent exclusion from this or future events.
  • Abusing the reporting process or false reporting will be considered to be in violation of these guidelines and subject to the same consequences.
